ARMINES(France)

ARMINES was created in 1967 through the efforts of the "Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris" (ENSMP). ARMINES is a contract-based research association that is funded under an agreement with the French government and operating under the control of an auditor and a government commissioner, ARMINES has extended its activities to encompass the entire network of the "Ecole des Mines" under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry. In 2000, ARMINES had an average salaried workforce of 518. Engineers make up 46% of the staff, while 23% are technicians and 25% are administrators. With over 60 laboratories distributed over 14 sites throughout France, Armines provides a convenient frame for contractual relations between industry and academic laboratories. The latter are linked to ARMINES through the creation of "Joint Research Units".
